Is There A Need For Fat Camps For Kids?

Here’s video on how a weight loss camp in the U.K is helping kids to lose weight.

While I congratulate the young lad in the video for losing weight, personally, I feel that there shouldn’t be a need for fat camp for kids if parents were more responsible for their children.

As a parent myself, I think that my responsibility to my kids is clothing, feeding and taking care of them, which includes their health and weight.

So, my question is shouldn’t parents with overweight kids be more responsible to them and help sort this problem out at home rather than relying on other health agencies to come in and sort the problem out for them?

I’d love to hear your opinion…

Omron Hj-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer Review

Omron Hj-112 Digital Pocket PedometerIf you’re thinking of walking for weight loss, you’ll need a serious pedometer both to challenge yourself and also to record how you’re doing each day. If that’s what you’re looking for then the Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer Omron Hj 112 Digital Pocket Pedometer Review could be the right pedometer for you.

First, it is quite compact and can comfortably fit in a pocket and not feel bulky (you can wear with a clip too or hang it from a cord off a belt). Second, it really seems to accurately count steps, which if you’re recording your daily steps is something you really need to know.

What is unique about the Omron HJ-112 is that it has a design that allows you to either wear it on your belt or waistband, or to carry it in a pocket or purse or pack. The only condition being that the unit must remain perpendicular to the ground, but it is forgiving enough to be tilted or slanted, so long as it is not lying on its face or on its back relative to the ground.

Some of the cheaper Pedometers will in fact measure steps even when you shake the Pedometer from side to side; this is a clear indicator of a cheap Pedometer. The more expensive and more accurate Pedometers have a more accurate motion sensor which measures and logs steps based on vibrations detected as a result of the ones feet impacting with the ground.

The Omron’s large, easy-to-read LCD display can separately display aerobic steps and minutes walked more than 10 minutes continuously, so you always have the information you need right in front of you.

Meanwhile, a seven day history lets you review a full week of exercise, and there’s also a 42-day memory for uploading past workouts to your PC. It will also count aerobic steps (if you move constantly for a certain number of minutes), calories burned (based on the weight you program in) and miles (supported the stride length you program in). One really nice feature is that it will remember the last seven days of steps and reset automatically at midnight.

It’s very accurate and keeps aerobic steps and aerobic time as well .This is very helpful and unlike most others, it counts both walking steps and aerobic (or jogging) steps. The Omron also has a voice announcement that speaks your calories burned, number of steps taken, distance traveled and total time. Set the Auto Voice Announcement and the pedometer speaks the numbers displayed on the LCD once you reach your programmed goal.

Most users have nothing but praise for the Omron Pocket Pedometer HJ-112, but a few downsides emerge in reviews.

  • It’s less accurate when placed in a pants pocket.
  • The other drawback is the lifespan of the battery is about 6 months.

If you consider all the money you may have spent on exercise equipment in the past that’s either ended up in the local charity shop or hidden in your garage. The cost of a pocket pedometer is small and the chances are you’ll use it a lot more.

If you’re looking for an advanced and accurate pedometer that measures everything you do then the Omron HJ-112 Digital pocket pedometer may be the right option for you.
