Exercise Tips Archives

You’d probably assume that from the headline of today’s post I’m talking about skipping..but no!

This new workout uses a heavy duty rope that’s anchored to the floor and the object of the exercise is to shake it until you get a wave motion going….and then keep it going.  Although it sounds simple, this workout is great for improving your cardio fitness and also gives your upper and lower body muscles a great workout.

The rope workout came about when strongman John Brookfield from North Carolina, was looking for a new feat to add to his strongman display. He found that trying to keep a simple wave motion with a piece of rope going challenged him greatly physically and mentally. Due to the twofold attack not only on his muscles but also also on his concentration to keep the motion going and stay standing upright.

Here’s the man himself in action with his “Battling Ropes”….

Why not give it as try!

Compared to other exercise equipment you see advertised on late night TV, a quick visit to your local DIY or hardware store for some heavy duty rope and you’re good to go.

You may get some strange looks from neighbors over the back fence but who cares what they think :)

8 ways to squeeze in more physical activity 300x199 8 Ways To Squeeze More Physical Activity Into Your DayYou may think, or use the excuse that you’ve no time for exercise.

But is that really true?

Here are some ideas of how you can get the recommended 30 minutes per day…

1.  One of the first and most obvious times you can get exercise is in front of the television. Why not drag that exercise bike that’s been hidden in storage and put it in front of your TV.  This way you can both exercise and not miss out on your favorite programs.  And if you don’t have an exercise bike why not jog/walk in the one place or just get down on the floor and do some crunches or sit ups.

2. After waking up why not jump out of bed and do some type of stretching or tummy crunches to start the day. It’ll help to get the blood flowing and make you more alert before you start your day.

3. Try to get more walking into your day its usually quite easy simply by taking the stairs instead of using a lift and or parking further away from your work place and walking the rest of the journey.

4. Even busy house moms can get some exercise in while doing household chores, whether you’re vacuuming or sweeping the floor by upping the tempo with your favorite CD on you’ll increase your calories burned and break out in a sweat.

5. Why not combine exercise time with quality time with your family, take a walk in the evening and talk about everyone’s day. Or get some music on and challenge your kids to a dancing competition (truthfully speaking you mightn’t have a chance winning it but don’t tell them that!)

6. Being stuck at your office desk shouldn’t be an excuse not to exercise, why not substitute your office chair for a stability ball or buy a bicycle pedal machine that you can put under your desk to keep those legs moving all day.

7. Talking on the phone? There are times during our day that we don’t really need to be stationary and talking on the phone is one of them, why not walk on the spot as you talk or even talk while on your exercise bike but don’t strain yourself exercising so you’re doing a lot of panting on the phone (while this may excite some people, you may find others don’t ring you as much.)

8. Cooking dinner?  You can dance through the kitchen, walk in place while you stir sauce, do toe touches while you wait for the timer to buzz, step ups on the kitchen stool, and so many much can be done

Finally,

While you might think you are far too busy to make time for exercise, there probably are some small windows of time that are free or where you’re able to multi-task your exercise with other parts of your life.  Also while 30 minutes of exercise are recommended, even as little as 6 minutes a day can improve your health.
