The Cost Of Plastic Surgery After Weight Loss
For the majority of people that lose weight, they can continue on in their lives without any more problems. But, for others having lost the weight they still have another hurdle to face and that’s getting rid of the excess skin.
Dr. David Smith, director of the University of South Florida Health Division of Plastic Surgery says “If you start at 200 and lose 80 pounds, that’s a significant percentage loss, which could lead to a significant loose skin problem.”
For some of us our skin hasn’t been stretched that far and so there may be a little sag but we can get away with it but for others surgery is the only option. Apart from the losing of excess flesh there are chances you will be left with scarring. For example if you had “Bat wings” hanging from your arms you could end up with scarring running down the inside of your arm from arm pit to elbow.
While the majority of insurance companies do cover this type of surgery that only cover some areas like the apron of fat that overlaps on the stomach area. The reason being for health reasons rather than cosmetic, they may remove the flesh but they won’t reposition your belly button.
If you find yourself in this situation of needing to have surgery to remove excess skin the national average prices of surgery for different area of your body are as follows.
Arm lift: $3,574
Breast lift: $4,236
Tummy tuck: $5,264
Thigh lift: $4,464
Lower body lift: $8,073
But, these figures may depend on surgeon’s fees, fees for the surgical facility, anesthesia, medications, tests and post-surgery garments.
Personally, I feel that all these options should be paid for. When you’ve gone so far and lost so much weight, the thoughts of having to pay for surgery like this if you hadn’t got the money, could lead to thoughts of why did I bother and why not just put the weight back on again, rather than walking around in a body that’s too big for me now.
