Is Procrastination Killing Your Weight Loss Happiness
We all use procrastination from time to time to avoid doing things we don’t want to do, whether it’s paying a bill or trying to avoiding cleaning up the house.
And procrastination can kick in when it comes to losing weight, you really know deep down that you need to lose weight but you keep putting it off?
To help you overcome putting off getting in shape here are a few anti – procrastination tips…
It can be hard to admit to others that you’re a procrastinator; we usually blame it on others or our family upbringing. But the sooner you accept that while it may have started because of others, it starts and ends with you. The sooner you accept that, the better you’ll be able to overcome your procrastination.
Once you accept the procrastination is a problem for you, you need to make small daily changes to your routine to break the habit. It could be waking a little bit earlier to organize your day better so you have a free time to exercise.
Ask yourself, “In what ways do I procrastinate?” Sit down with a pen and some paper and write down how procrastination has been holding you back from losing weight.
Here are some examples…
- Other people are to blame because I can’t go on a diet.
- Don’t have time to exercise
- I’ve tried before without success
- It’s not the right time in my life to lose weight, because I’ve got this or that event coming up, “I’ll start tomorrow.”
After listing the ways in which you procrastinate, make a second list of what you lost out on because you procrastinated about starting to lose weight.
It could be….
- I could have been in better health
- I could have had energy to things in my life
- I could have improved my confidence and not felt so negative about myself.
When you look at this second list, ask yourself was it worth losing out on those things because you procrastinated.
Now taking those things on your second list think about how the overall quality of your life would improve if you did all those things?
- Being able to travel more
- Having the energy to play with your children
- Being able to go into any clothing store and buying clothes you like, rather than clothes you have to wear
- Being an inspiration to others, either in your family or neighborhood
- Not having the health issue you now have
Finally,
You might think that writing down lists is going to be a total waste of time, but sometimes when things get written down it makes it more concrete and physical and can be a wake up call to where we’ve been going wrong.
Also, when you’ve made up your lists, carry the third list around in your pocket and refer to it from time to time when you feel like you’re using procrastination for not getting in shape.
Remember this is how your life will improve because you’ve started; the rest is up to you!
