How Can I Get Rid Of Fat Thighs?
Trying to lose weight in the thigh and hip area is one of the hardest challenges in weight loss. Women in particular have a tendency to accumulate fat in the thighs and it can get very unsightly especially when the thighs begin to get flabby.
Before you get into an exercise regime to remove that particular area of fat, you need to understand that you will need to lose overall body fat and that focusing on only one area or spot reducing fat doesn’t work. Although diets and dieting you help you to lose fat from all over your body, you will not lose it equally.
For example if you happen to be pear-shaped woman, be patient about getting the results that you want because hip and thigh fat can be quite stubborn to get rid of. There are several theories why that stubborn fat is stored in different places for men and women. Some say it’s genetic. Your body stores fat where there are fat cells, and for most of us they concentrate on the upper and lower midsection. Exactly where the fat goes may depend on the lipoprotein lipase, which is an enzyme necessary for fat storage.
Before I go onto the topic of exercises for toning up your thighs you will need to take a look at your diet first.
- Cut Out The Junk Food – If you’re really serious on improving your legs I’m sorry to say that you will need to take a look at eliminating processed foods, deep-fried foods, refined foods and foods that are high in calories.
- Drink More Water – Water helps flush the body of impurities, and it also helps to increase metabolism, so drink up.
- Eat More Often – You’ll probably tempted into thinking that cutting calories down to the minimum will give you the results you’re looking for but sorry to say but it will have the opposite effect. Your body works better and burns fat better using more several smaller meals rather than eating larger meals.
While dieting is the way most women use to get more shapely legs the best way to tone up those thighs is to improve the muscle tone in your legs. There are leg exercises that you can like squats and lunges (either with or without weights) that will help build that muscle in your legs and thighs, so that they appear more toned and not flabby.
There are also some great “Pilates” exercises that can also be done to improve thigh fat. Here’s a simple one…
Lie on the floor on your side and bring your leg forward, then up and around in a big circle. It’s like arm circles only with your legs. Do 7 to 10 to start with and then rotate your leg the other way 7 to 10 times. You can do as many sets as you like but I guarantee you it won’t be many! Then switch to the other leg.
Another great thigh toning exercise is cycling. Cycling is a great way to tone up your legs as you’re working the largest muscles in the body the butt and thighs. And because you’re exercising these large muscles you’re also burning the most calories which help’s to burn off some of that overall body fat.
Another option to both exercise and dieting is to use liposuction to get rid of thigh fat.
But this may be the wrong way to go. Dr. Anne B. Newman, of the University of Pittsburgh found that thigh fat may be good fat (Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, August 12, 2005).
“Older women with lots of fat in their thighs are at much lower risk for ”metabolic syndrome,” a condition associated with high blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure that increase risk for diabetes and heart disease. The bad fat appears to be stored in the abdomen and wraps around organs.
In post-menopausal women, heavy thighs and buttocks are associated with lower triglycerides, blood sugar and blood pressure. We aren’t sure how thigh fat prevents disease. It may be a receptacle that draws triglycerides and other fats from the bloodstream or it may draw fat from the abdomen and around organs where it could be lethal.” So, rather than thigh fat being a problem you can thank it for the work its doing to keep you healthier.
Finally, by following a sensible dieting plan and taking up some leg toning exercise you can might not get the legs of a “Goddess” but you can improve the appearance of what they are at the moment.
Just stick with it and don’t give up!
