Vibrating Plates and Weight Loss
According to Muscle & Fitness Magazine, vibration therapy is on its way to becoming one of the fastest growing fitness trends since spinning.
It wasn’t until after the fall of the Iron Curtain, that Vibration Exercise technology found its way to other countries. Unlike the old-fashioned belt exercisers that appeared in gyms years ago which just shifted skin around, vibration plate systems actually work the muscles of the body and can contract the muscles 30 to 50 times per second.
This low impact form of exercise makes it possible to condense a one hour work out into 10 minutes with less stress and fatigue on your muscular skeletal system. One of the first things to make clear is that exercise that takes place on a vibration plate is anaerobic exercise which means that you are burning energy without the presence of oxygen.
This is why exercise on a vibration plate is conducted in short bursts in order to yield the most beneficial results. Other benefits are helping to tone muscle, improve circulation and speed up recovery from injuries due to the natural stimulation of growth hormone and also increases bone density.
Training on a vibration platform can be performed with either static postures or dynamic exercises. Static postures are where you get yourself into the required position, and hold the position without any motion for the selected period.
What’s The Proof?
Recent university studies have shown that this type of body-conditioning improves muscle strength, increases metabolism, and reduces body fat. This is because during a vibration workout, almost all (95 to 97 %) muscle fibers of the exercised muscle group are activated. Vibration plates are also used by astronauts to prevent them from losing muscle and bone mass in space.
Can vibrating exercise equipment improve your health; the short answer is that almost all equipment will work to some degree providing you use them frequently. If you don’t use the equipment often enough and improve your diet by eating a “cleaner” diet you probably won’t notice much difference on the weighing scales and be disappointed.
But, if you find it hard to exercise properly due to your weight, vibration plates could be a good place to start. As you lose weight and become more mobile you can move onto more active forms of exercise to continue your progress.
