Our motto here is  "It's never too late to lose weight."

Even if you've never been successful with diets and weight loss in the past, I hope to inspire all of you out there by providing real world weight loss tips and advice you can use today to start those weighing scales going in the right direction.

You’d probably assume that from the headline of today’s post I’m talking about skipping..but no!

This new workout uses a heavy duty rope that’s anchored to the floor and the object of the exercise is to shake it until you get a wave motion going….and then keep it going.  Although it sounds simple, this workout is great for improving your cardio fitness and also gives your upper and lower body muscles a great workout.

The rope workout came about when strongman John Brookfield from North Carolina, was looking for a new feat to add to his strongman display. He found that trying to keep a simple wave motion with a piece of rope going challenged him greatly physically and mentally. Due to the twofold attack not only on his muscles but also also on his concentration to keep the motion going and stay standing upright.

Here’s the man himself in action with his “Battling Ropes”….

Why not give it as try!

Compared to other exercise equipment you see advertised on late night TV, a quick visit to your local DIY or hardware store for some heavy duty rope and you’re good to go.

You may get some strange looks from neighbors over the back fence but who cares what they think :)

How To Trigger Your Skinny Gene

how to trigger your skinny geneIf you’re looking to knock off a few pounds this side of Christmas without calorie counting or strict meal plans, than the “Alternate Day Diet” may be just what you’ve been looking for. It recommends that all you need to do to get a slimmer figure is to eat half your calorie intake every other day.

For those of you out there who’ve followed strict calories diets have probably noticed that over time your weight loss gets slower and slower as your body gets used to eating less calories and thus it lowers your metabolism accordingly.

But, by doing this type of diet it actually helps to trigger your “skinny” gene in your bodyby the feast to famine scenario and encourages the body to burn fat.

In medical trails in the University of Illinois, 16 patients followed this type of diet for 10 weeks by eating 20% of their normal intake one day and a regular healthy diet the next lost between 10lb and 30lb.

What are my thoughts?

I think if you look at it this diet does have merits, common sense would say that controlling your calories even its only every second day, leads to eating less and thus your body loses weight.

Also the body has a great way of adapting to changes either with exercise and diets and by changing your daily intake I can see how the results may be better than just being strict with calorie intake.

But if you do try this diet out and aren’t having success its probably down to either of these 2 reasons…

1 – You’re pigging out of your “off” diet days to make up for the next days fasting.

2 -  You haven’t gain a understanding of how many calories you really should be eating and not what you think you should be eating.
