Get A Weight Loss Buddy And Boost Your Weight Loss Success
A new study has revealed that to get the best weight loss results from your next diet is to find a weight loss buddy to slim with.
Amy Gorin, assistant professor of psychology at the University of Connecticut recruited 201 overweight and obese people for a 6 month trial that consisted of low-fat, low-calorie diet and moderate intensity physical activity. They met weekly with weight-loss experts and learned how to keep food journals and work through tempting eating situations.
The group was split in two, while both groups received the weekly weight loss advice, one group had to slim with a weight loss buddy (either their partner of someone in the home). This group also had some form of exercise equipment placed in their home along with healthy cooking magazines.
After the 6 months trail both groups were weighed and it was found that the second group (with the weight loss buddy) lost 20 pounds compared to the first that only lost 15 pounds.
While this study does reveal that having a weight loss buddy close by can help to make a difference it also reveals that changing your home environment can also add to your success.
Things like…
- Eating off smaller plates.
- Exercising at home – its and cheaper that visiting the gym and you don’t have to buy anything expensive (a second hand cycling machine from a charity shop would do).
- Having weight loss or healthier cooking magazines around to refer to and inspire you.
- Clearing all junk food and treats out of your kitchen (remember out of sight out of mind …and touch).
While having a weight loss buddy can have its benefits it also has its drawbacks. To get the best results you need to find someone positive and really willing to lose weight.
There are people out there that we all know that are serial dieters, that are always complaining that they can never lose weight. This isn’t the type of person you want as this negative type of person will only bring you down.
If you can’t find someone in your immediate area I’d recommend you place an ad in your local paper or go online to a weight forum and find one there.
If you’re still having problems finding the right person for you, get a subscription to a dieting magazine like “Weight Watchers” where you can find helpful advice, recipes and more importantly success stories that will inspire you and make you believe that….”YES I Can Do It!”.
