Lose weight for moneyAccording to a new scheme being introduced in Basildon District Council in the U.K in September, volunteers will get paid a pound for every pound of weight they lose.

But rather than cash changing hands, the successful participants will receive their payment in the form of vouchers that they can exchange in their local supermarket for “healthier” foods.

One of the council spokesmen said that “We hope to get people going in the right direction, there isn’t a massive cash prize at the end but a book of vouchers. It’s an encouragement, almost, to keep people motivated,” the spokesman said.

While to some people in the council this project may help some people to get motivated to lose weight I feel that this project is doomed from the beginning.

And for these 2 reasons

1 – No Cash Prize – Be truthful here, in this recession time people would rather cash than vouchers. If you look at programs like the “Biggest Loser” etc, the cash prize or equivalent is what makes all the difference. …”Money talks”

2 – Cashing Vouchers – Another problem I over see is what the vouchers can be exchanged for. This “healthier food” option personally would annoy me. Rather than making me feel like a grow up to shop for whatever I want, I’m limited to what other people say I can buy, as if I can’t be trust to shop for myself…”sorry no, thanks”

And if you are given vouchers for successful weight loss why not give vouchers for a local jewelry shop or a clothes shop where I can update my wardrobe with some smaller clothing??

I’d love to here your thoughts on this scheme?
